John
Bingham is another of the once prominent local citizens to be remembered within
the Cathedral. Bingham was the saddler to Elizabeth I and a benefactor of the local
grammar school. He played a very important role in the history of the Cathedral as he was
one of the 'Bargainers'. This was the group of parishioners
who bought the church from
James I. At the time of purchase the church was in a very poor state of repair and faced a
very bleak future. |
