Prayers are the stairs to
God.
Prayers are the stairs
We must climb every day,
If we would reach God.
There is no other way,
For we learn to know God
When we meet him in prayer
And ask him to lighten
Our burden of care.
(Holy Saviour, Croydon*)
Eternal
God, we thank you for the gift of marriage in which men and women
seek and find fulfilment, companionship and the blessing of family
life.
Give patience to those who look forward to marriage.
Give courage to those who marriage has broken.
Give gratitude to those whose marriages are successful and fruitful,
and let their lives reflect your love and glory.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen
Dear
Lord, who in your earthly life knew the love of your parents,
Give to all mothers and fathers your blessing
Give them wisdom to guide, tolerance to understand and love to
enfold those you have entrusted to their care.
We ask this for all parents everywhere. Amen.
*Many of the prayers on these pages are
taken from
'United in Prayer'.

Welcome to
our website and to the Mothers' Union in South London and
East Surrey.
It has been
said in the past that the MU is the best kept secret in the
Anglican Church - but we are changing that here in Southwark
Diocese! Still there are many people who do not realise just
what we do. The MU is a Christian organisation and part of
the Anglican Church. It works at putting a Christian
perspective on all aspects of family life.
We have over 2000
members in Southwark Diocese; men and women, single and married who
are all concerned with strengthening marriage and Christian family
life. Today the organisation is centred on prayer and fellowship
combined with projects relevant to where our members live. They
respond to the varying needs of their own community and their church
in varied and different ways that assist in supporting families and
marriages.
We are a pro-active
international organisation having been partners in the Jubilee Debt campaign supporting the cancellation of world dept; and around the
world we are running adult literacy programmes; supporting local
family workers and through grants we assist in aiding self-help
projects.
In the UK our Millennium
project is "Parenting 2000" which trains facilitators in
the organisation of parenting courses. MU Enterprises produces cards
and gifts and there is a quarterly magazine 'Home & Family', and
quarterly diocesan newsletter.
If you would like to
know more, or would like to join or support the organisation, please
call us on 020 7939 9459 or e-mail us at mu@southwark.anglican.org.
